Kim Jong Un, the first secretary of North Korean ruling Workers` Party, reappeared in the North Korean media on Tuesday, after 40 days of disappearance from public. The South Korean government source said on Thursday that the North Korean leader got surgery on the left knee cartilage and ankle bone.

According to the South Korean government source, Kim is in recovery after having surgery during the period when he disappeared from the media. Kim has not fully recovered yet but made appearance with a cane in the media, said the source.

The South Korean government suspects that North Korean leader may get injured while exercising in the overweight state after gaining weight rapidly. Probability is that Kim got injured while playing sports such as basketball known as his favorite or showing an example during a military drill. Some analysts say that Kim may put too much strain on his body during frequent public appearance such as field guidance.

It was July when North Korean media first showed Kim walking with a limp. Kim had been missing from the media since September. After making reappearance, the media showed Kim smoking a cigarette as if boasting Kim’s sound health.
