Japanese official broadcaster NHK quoted South Korean intelligence officials on Monday as saying that some ten North Koreans might have died while on duty, when Israel bombed Syria’s nuclear facility last September.

According to NHK, the dead people are believed to be officers from the “Office 99” affiliated with the munitions industry department of North Korean Workers’ Party and North Korean soldiers working for nuclear facility construction in North Korea. Their bodies were all cremated in Syria and sent to North Korea in October.

The “Office 99” directly reports to North Korean leader Kim Jong Il and is known as solely responsible for weapons and military technology export, the country’s major cash cow business.

Meanwhile, the Japanese broadcasting station said that a couple of North Korean officers had survived the air raid but their whereabouts are unknown, and that South Korean authorities are gathering information and trying to track them.
