It has been confirmed that Chinese teaching materials of universities and history books for both academic world and public reflect the results of the Northeast Asia Project. They say, “Goguryeo was the government of one of ethnic minor groups in northern east of China.”

Dong-A Ilbo conducted a research on public history books and teaching materials for students of colleges of education and majoring in history at general universities. It turns out that most of books illustrate all of territories excluding Baekje and Shilla as China’s ancient territory.

In particular, students who are using these teaching materials at colleges of education are expected to be teachers at public schools in China. It is anticipated that they will have a large influence on historical spirits of younger Chinese generations.

One of teaching materials, called, “The history of ancient world,” asserts that Goguryeo was the government of one of ethnic minorities at that time, which means 6~7th Century (p.213).

Other material, “The history of development of Chinese people,” used for students majoring history at general universities, premises, “According to historical evidence, Yemaek ethinc group of ancient Joseon, Buyeo and Goguryeo is related to Zhongyuan group (it seems to indicate Han group)” (p.203) And it includes Gija Joseon, Weman Joseon, Buyeo, Okjeo, Goguryeo and Balhae into the category of Chinese ancient history.

However, it seems that Chinese government hadn’t changed those explanations of teaching materials or public history books extensively.

“The introduction of history,” a teaching material of Fudan University in Shanghai, describes at the section of Sui-Tang period, “The Korean peninsula was divided by three countries, Goryeo (indicating Goguryeo here), Baekje and Shilla. It was middle of the 7th Century when Korea was unified by Shilla which destroyed the two other countries.”

“Lieguoji-Korea” published by Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS) admits the entire ancient history from ancient Joseon, Buyeo to Samguk period (three states) as Korean history in the “history” section. Regarding this fact, a figure from the Korean Embassy in China remarks, “Teaching materials and history books for academic fields are different from textbooks of public schools which are published and controlled by Chinese government, so it is hard to request to correct errors in them.”
