MSNBC Internet quoted an analysis of the U.S. Census Bureau (USCB) that the world population exceeded 6.5 billion at 7:16 p.m. on February 25, Eastern Standard Time (EST) (Korea Time: 9:16 a.m. on February 26). The worlds population surpassed six billion in June 1999, the USCB announced in 2004. An extra half billion have been added since then.
Currently, 4.4 new babies are born per second, and the world population has increased more than four times since the 1900s. The USCB predicts that if this trend continues, the worlds population will surpass seven billion on October 18, 2012.
