Woman Power

“Woman power” is getting stronger in international politics. Socialist Michelle Bachelet (left) won Chile`s presidential election on Sunday, becoming the nation`s first woman leader. In the presidential election in Finland on the same day, Tarja Halonen (right) beat her opponent by double. Since she didn’t get the 50 percent of votes needed to win the re-election, there will be a runoff election on the 29th of this month, but Halonen’s victory seems to be sure. Including Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf (middle), who won the presidential election in November last year and was inaugurated on Monday, women have won the presidency in three continents, Africa, Latin America, and Europe, over the past three months.
