Kim Moo-sung, chairman of the ruling Saenuri Party, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday to exchange views on major regional issues. During their first meeting in 21 months, they reportedly discussed intensively on anti-corruption efforts and had in-depth talks on issues of the two countries common interest.

Kim made a speech at a policy meeting between the South Korean ruling party and the Communist Party of China (CPC) earlier in the day. He gave high marks to Beijing`s anti-corruption efforts, saying the Chinese president`s war on corruption is gaining strong support from Chinese people and other countries.

At a meeting with Wang Jiarui, head of the CPC International Liaison Department, Kim said, "Seoul believes that Beijing will deter Pyongyang regarding the North Korean nuclear issue."

Kim Moon-soo, who heads the Saenuri Party`s reform committee, presented on his party`s reform efforts, including paycuts, abolition of no-arrest privilege and a ban of politicians` book-publishing events used to raise political funds. He told reporters that his reform committee will seek to introduce the "no work, no pay" principle to lawmakers. Under the principle, lawmakers are not paid when the National Assembly remains idle due to political wrangling.
