Jungsu Scholarship Case and Bombing of KAL Likely to Be Probed
FEBRUARY 02, 2005 22:41
The National Intelligence Service (NIS) committee in charge of investigations into South Korea`s past history (head: Reverend Oh Chung-il) will select four or five cases to be probed first and announce investigation plans at NIS headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul on the morning of February 3.

Moon Jang-shik, human rights director of the National Council of Churches in Korea (KNCC) and a member of the Committee said, “The committee is planning to publicize the cases to be probed first after committee members finally decide on them in a plenary meeting scheduled for 10:00 a.m., shortly before the planned press conference, as now there are discrepancies among members’ opinions. ”

There are reportedly seven candidate cases to be probed first: the bombing of Korean Air flight 858 (1987), Minchung Hakryeon and inhyukdang cases (1974), the so-called Dongbaekrim, a North Korea spy case (1967), the death of leading activist Jang Joon-ha (1975), the disappearance of Kim Hyeong-wook, a former chief of the Korea Central Intelligence Agency (1979), the Jungsu Scholarship Foundation case (1962), and the so-called Central Region Party case (1992).
