A 19-story hotel is to be constructed next to the site of Korea Electric Power Corp., in Samseong-dong of Gangnam District, Seoul. Seoul City’s Joint Committee of Architecture & Urban Planning announced on Thursday that it has approved the proposal to change a decision on the zone unit planning for the land, including the site on the street number of 168-3 in Samseong-dong, inside the international exchange complex zone unit planning area. This site is close to the 7th gate of Samseong subway station in the subway line number 2. There is a high demand for accommodation as the site is close to COEX, a mega mall that houses convention centers and exhibition halls, and the Yeongdongdaero, which connects the zone to other Gangnam areas.

According to the Special Act for Tourism Accommodation Facilities, 19-story tourist hotel (at the height of 67.9 meters) with four floors underground will be constructed on the site in the size of 18,757 square meters with 719 percent of the floor area ratio applied. Parking lot will accommodate 82 cars. The committee also designated facilities in the area around the St. No. 49-17 in Wonnam-dong, Jongno District in Seoul, as the tourism accommodation facilities. The area is close to Jongmyo shrine, Changgyeong Palace, Changdeok Palace, and Seoul Natiolal University Hospital. It is easy to access the area from Seoul City Hall, Seoul Station and Cheonggyecheon Stream. The applied floor area ratio is 800 percent. The tourist hotel will have five stories below and 14 above the ground (with 287 rooms).
