The Seoul city government has completed the demolition of the Seodaemun overpass that links the Chungjeongno subway station and the Gwanghwamun intersection and open the road to the public on Saturday.

The number of lanes on the road where the overpass existed increased from six to eight, which is the same number of those on the Saemunanno and the Chungjeongno. As the overpass structure has been torn down, congestion is expected to be eased as it improves traffic flow for vehicles to make a left turn from the Seodaemun intersection. In order to go from the Chungjeongno to Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, the Seoul Red Cross Hospital or the April 19th Revolution Memorial Hall, it is recommended to use the lane for U-turn at the Jeongdong intersection.

Seoul city plans to repair the surrounding sidewalks for convenience of pedestrians and complete installation of bike lanes until the next month. Crosswalks around the Seodaemun intersection are moved closer to the intersection.
