According to the Korean Embassy in the Philippines on Monday, the student, who was studying at a college-affiliated language institute in Bacolod, was shot in front of the institute.

The student was there with other students to have fun for the weekend, and was shot in his ribs when he was trying to restrain the armed man from stealing a friend`s bag. The armed man fled in a motorcycle immediately after the crime.

The student was moved to a nearby hospital and went through a bullet eliminating surgery. Embassy consul Hong Deok-ki told the Dong-A Ilbo over the phone, "The patient regained consciousness and is fast recovering. He will soon receive outpatient treatment."
