Korean ice creams and ginseng beverages are gaining popularity in China. According to the Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Ministry on Sunday, Korea’s ice cream export to China amounted to 8.65 million U.S. dollars through September this year, a 31-percent increase year-on-year, while its ginseng beverage shipment amounted to 1.59 million dollars, a 109-percent increase. Given Korea’s agricultural product and food export to China increased by 7 percent over the same period, the growth of ice cream and ginseng beverage export is quite robust. Notably in September, ice cream export (503,000 dollars) soared 333 percent, while ginseng beverage export (230,000 dollars) rose 143 percent.

The ministry explained that more Chinese consumers are seeking Korean products as demand for premium import products is growing in tune with income growth in China, while Chinese consumers have distrust in Chinese products. Korean products are popular especially among 20 something women due to Hallyu or popular Korean pop culture. Ginseng beverages sold briskly as gifts during the thanksgiving holidays (Sept. 26 – Sept. 28).

Meanwhile, Korea’s export of agricultural and food products to the Arab world has also increased. The export to six Arabian countries, including the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, amounted to 289.56 million dollars in the January-to-September period this year, up 16 percent year-on-year.
