Samsung TV targets 10th straight year of global No. 1

Samsung Electronics’ global TV market share rose in the second quarter from the previous quarter in terms of sales, making it highly likely to cement No. 1 position in the global TV market for the 10th straight year.

According to international market research firm IHS Display Research on Wednesday, Samsung’s market share in terms of sales amount reached 28.4 percent in the second quarter, up 1.4 percentage points from the preceding quarter. Unit sales also rose 1.1 percentage points to 21.4 percent, maintaining No. 1 ranking.

High-end categories of UHD and curved TVs grabbed 36.4 percent and 80.7 percent share in sales amount, respectively. During the same period, global TV shipment fell to 48 million units, down 1.89 million from the first quarter.

“Sales of UHD TVs including SUHD TVs increased more than 50 percent in the second quarter, with curved TVs showing sharp popularity,” said Kim Hyun-seok, head of Samsung Electronics` visual display unit. “We will keep up efforts to maintain the 10th straight year of global No. 1.”
