Hyundai Motor Group awarded 880 million won (approximately 825,000 U.S. dollars) to the South Korean national archery team for its feat in the Incheon Asian Games that ended in early October. The archery team won five gold medals, three silver and one bronze.

Chung Eui-sun, vice chairman of Hyundai Motor Group and chief of the Korea Archery Association, had a luncheon with some 30 association officials and archery team members in southern Seoul on Friday, delivering the award money on behalf of Hyundai Motor Group Chairman and his father Chung Mong-koo, encouraging the athletes to carry on the success of Korean archery.

The Hyundai vice chairman handed 70 million won (67,695 dollars) to each of Jung Dasomi, who won gold medals in women`s individual and team recurve archery, and Choi Bo-min, women`s individual compound archery gold medalist. A prize of 50 million won (46,926 dollars) went to Oh Jin-hyeok, who grabbed bronze medals in men`s individual and team events. The national archery team`s coaching staff also received cash awards.

Hyundai Motor Group has long been a generous sponsor of Korean archery, although the sport is not so popular in Korea. The senior Chung had served as head of the Korea Archery Association for four terms between 1985 and 1997, investing over 38 billion won (35.66 million dollars) to expand the archery base in the country, cultivate talents and develop high-tech equipment. The Hyundai vice chairman has been serving as the archery association`s chief since 2005.
