Samsung Electronics has developed a next-generation Wi-Fi technology that is five times faster than the current Wi-Fi technology in use, the Korean tech giant says on Sunday.

The next-generation Wi-Fi can run at speed of 4.6 Gbps, which is five times faster than the current maximum speed per second of Wi-Fi used on the latest smart phones (866Mbps). This technology will allow real-time transmission and viewing of uncompressed high-definition video files from smart phones to TVs. In addition, 1GB film files can be exchanged among smart phones within the span of three seconds.

Another strength is that the next-generation Wi-Fi technology uses 60GHz, ultra-high frequency bandwidth, and therefore has very little frequency interference. This is different from the current bandwidth, which experiences a rapid drop in usage speed when in proximity to a large number of users owing to frequency interference issues. "Since theoretical maximum speeds and actual speeds are similar, users of the new Wi-Fi technology could find it more than 10 times faster than the current Wi-Fi technology.
