Apple said Monday (local time) that pre-orders of its new product iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus topped a record 4 million in the first 24 hours. This means the two products were sold 166,667 units per hour, 2,778 per minute, and over 46 units per second.

The first 24-hour pre-order performance was some 600,000 iPhone 4s in June 2010, some 1 million iPhone 4Ss in October 2011, and 2 million iPhone 5s in September 2012. It took 72 hours for the iPhone 5 series to top 4 million in pre-orders but iPhone 6 shortened the time to 24 hours.

The new smartphones will go on sale Friday in 10 countries including the U.S., the U.K., Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.

CBS News said Apple Watch`s ultra high end line "Edition Collection" that will go on sale early next year will likely be priced at around 1,200 U.S. dollars.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is known to release Galaxy Note 4 in Korea on September 26, ahead of the originally announced October, in order to respond to iPhone 6 that entered the phablet market. According to mobile telecom operators, Samsung Electronics will receive pre-orders for Galaxy Note 4 from Thursday.
