Tiger Woods rolls at WGC-Bridgestone for most wins in one PGA tournament

LeBron James, 30, is the most famous athlete of a small city of Akron, Ohio. The basketball player called the “King” was born in the city with the population of around 200,000 and made his NBA debut in Cleveland, a city near Akron. After a stint in Miami, he returned to Cleveland as a free agent.

But there is an athlete who becomes an “emperor” beyond a “king” in Akron. He is Tiger Woods, 39, the “golf emperor.”

Every year, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational is held at Firestone Country Club (par 70; 7,400 yards) in Akron. Woods has eight wins at the country club. He beat runner-ups by seven shots last year.

Woods who finished in the 69th place in the British Open two weeks ago will begin his title defense in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Thursday (local time).

If Tiger Woods wins this year again, he will beat his record of the largest wins in a single tournament which is also held by Sam Snead. Snead won the Greater Greensboro Open eight times between 1938 and 1965. Woods also won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Bay Hill Club, California eight times.

After claiming a victory in the WCG-Bridgestone last year, Woods said, “I don’t know why but I have just felt very comfortable here.” He who holds 79 PGA tour wins, second only to Sam Snead’s record of 82. It will be hard to find a better place than the Firestone Golf Club for Woods who has just returned from his back injury.
