The number of pensioners who are over 100 years is 45 and keeps growing, while the nation`s pension claims to be the partner of seniors in the aging society where people can live over 100 years.

The National Pension Service announced that up until last October, the number of pensioners over 100 was 45, having previously been 20 in 2012, 31 in 2013, and 32 in 2014. Those insured can receive a pension, but in case of their death, the benefits can be paid to surviving family members. The 45 reportedly receive 250,000 won (205.76 U.S. dollars) per month. The oldest among the pensioners is a 104-year-old who lives in Naju, South Jeolla Province. He has received pension for 26 years and eight months.

The oldest person among the pensioners who are receiving what they paid as insurance is 87 years old. The person subscribed to the insurance in 1988 when the national pension was first introduced. Back in 1993, he was 59, the oldest eligible age, and now has been receiving his pension for 22 years and nine months.

The policy has changed in such a way that at least 10 years of payment is required to get pension. However, in the early stages, the required duration was five years as a special promotion for seniors. There are some 1.5 million pensioners and they receive on average 208,000 won (171.19 dollars) a month.
