North Korea’s general intelligence bureau produced a program that enables users to operate illegal gambling sites and circulated it in Korea, it was confirmed on Sunday. According to the South Korean cyber security community, a program for operating illegal gambling servers that has the IP address of the North’s general intelligence bureau hidden in it was discovered on a website that world cyber security experts launched late last month to check malign codes after sharing various computer programs and files. The title of the program is "Poker game server."

An analysis of the program in question by white hackers in South Korea revealed that "175.45.178.○○," the IP address of the North’s general intelligence bureau, was discovered in the program. The North’s general intelligence bureau is the organization that oversees and commands the North’s cyber terror attacks on the South. It is the organization that was reportedly behind the "March 20, 2013 cyber terror attacks" on the websites of three South Korean broadcasters namely KBS, MBC and YTN, and three banks namely Shinhan, NongHyup and Jeju banks, which paralyzed their computer networks.

The program is designed to allow the user to operate various gambling sites using credit cards, including Seven Poker, and Badugi. It enables the user to operate a server in the Korean language and instantly check the number of all people logged in, the amount of jackpots at stake, and total income, among other data.

The program was operated from August 2013 to a recent month. This means that the North’s general intelligence bureau was deeply involved in operation of illegal gambling sites targeting South Korean nationals for more than two years.

“Under any scenarios, chances are high that the North’s general intelligence bureau would have earned large amounts of money in South Korea by operating gambling sites by itself or selling the program to multiple South Korean organized crime rings,” A white hacker said.
