A facility manager and a cleaner of the Vatican Apostolic Nunciature in Seoul are said to attend the first Mass conducted by Pope Francis on Thursday.

“Pope Francis has cared for even those who do cleaning work in Vatican, “ a committee preparing for the Pope’s visit to Korea said on Tuesday. “The Mass will have about 10 employees from the Vatican Apostolic Nunciature in Seoul including Apostolic Nuncio Osvaldo Padilla.”

According to the committee, the Pope will land on Seoul Airbase in Seongnam and move to the Apostolic Nunciature in Seoul, his accommodation, to have a private Mass. Though private, it will be his first Mass in Korea. The Pope will encourage employees and give them papal rosaries engraved with the papal coats of arms.

Pope Francis has stayed in a Casa Santa Marta guest house instead of the apostolic palace in Vatican. He has invited cleaners, gardeners and janitors for dinner and Mass since his inauguration in March last year.

The managers of 229 parish churches in Seoul have been invited to the Mass for peace and reconciliation to be held in the Myeongdong Cathedral next Monday. It is said that Vatican officials will come to Korea with the pope in the papal plane.
