Chung Mong-koo, chairman of the Hyundai Motor Group, has headed for the U.S. in his private plane to check the market on Tuesday. This shows his determination to find a breakthrough by visiting the U.S. market that is facing ever increasing competition. Chung plans to go to the company`s U.S. sales corporation located in Fountain Valley, California, to review new car sales and its marketing strategy. Then, he will visit Hyundai and Kia factories in Alabama and Georgia to check the quality of vehicles and encourage workers.

According to sources, Chung wanted to visit the U.S. while the headquarters and plants in Korea are closed for a summer vacation from Monday through Friday. It is the first time for Chung to go on an overseas business trip while giving up his summer vacation. During his summer vacation, Chung used to join a training session for new employees or study on future business plans at home.
