North Korean technicians are known to have received training in GPS technologies in China that can be used in the long-range missile launching system. Experts are paying attention to it to see if this will serve as a catalyst to take the North’s missile technology one step forward.

Sources about North Korea said on Friday, “North Korean delegates participated in a training session in July held by the National Remote Center in Hebai, China to receive intensive training in the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, which was developed by China”. China once argued that the accuracy level of BeiDou, its GPS system, is twice as much as the commercial GPS led by the U.S.

The U.S. has been providing related information after lowering its accuracy when it opens the GPS that was developed for military purposes, to the public in order to prevent civilians from misusing or abusing it. There is concern over North Korea using China’s GPS technology for military purposes once it learns the technology from China. The unmanned surveillance planes of North Korea that took photos of the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae and the Baengnyeong Island earlier this year are also based on simple GPS technologies.
