Obama poised to face legal dispute with House Speaker

U.S. President Barack Obama’s verbal fight with House Speaker John Boehner (Republic, Ohio) has come closer to actual legal dispute. The two sides have come into conflict over Obama’s alleged abuse of executive orders.

In an op-ed piece on CNN on Sunday, Speaker Boehner said, “…later this month, we will bring legislation to the House floor that would authorize the House of Representatives to file suit in an effort to compel President Obama to follow his oath of office and faithfully execute the laws of our country.” He also said, “What`s disappointing is the President`s flippant dismissal of the Constitution we are both sworn to defend,” adding, But too often over the past five years, the President has circumvented the American people and their elected representatives through executive action, changing and creating his own laws, and excusing himself from enforcing statutes he is sworn to uphold.”

Boehner started offensive by raising possibility to file suit against Obama on June 25. Boehner started protesting the chief executive, as the president used, in lieu of congressional legislation, executive orders in succession this year, including a hike in the federal government’s hourly minimum wage from 7.25 U.S. dollars to 10.10 dollars and grant of family medical leave for homosexual couples.

In response, Obama downplayed Boehner’s bid by calling it "risky acrobatics," and countered it by saying, “So sue me.” In his public speech on Tuesday last week, the president said, "Middle-class families can’t wait for Republicans in Congress to do stuff," adding, “As long as they’re doing nothing, I’m not going to apologize for doing something.”
