A South Korean government source said on Sunday, “Circumstances tell us that North Korea included the South Korean Army’s Spike missile base (with a purpose of precision attacks on North`s coastal artillery batteries), which are located in Baengnyeong and Yeonpyeong islands in the Yellow Sea, as one of the mock assault targets during the island landing drill performed in the costal sea of Wonsan on Friday.”

The source suggested North Korean newspaper Rodong Sinmun published on Saturday as evidence, which had a picture of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. In the picture, Kim is holding a training program titled "Measures and Methodologies for Training Tactics" and a sentence of "attack the spike base" is seen in the enlarged picture. The South Korean government source said a Romeo-class (1,800 tons) submarine unprecedentedly fired actual torpedoes in the drill operation.

Before the drill, Rodong Sinmun reported that Kim observed the joint landing drill involving the army, navy and air force and said, “The west-southern sea borders (the Northern Limit Line in the West Sea, and waters near NLL) are threatened by enemies.” The North Korean leader said he took the matter very seriously and strongly warned he would make the enemies regret bitterly, according to the newspaper.
