President Park Geun-hye is scheduled to hold a summit with Didier Burkhalter, the president and foreign minister of Switzerland, on Monday. Leaders of the two nations will mainly discuss bilateral cooperation in the area of science and technology and measures to promote partnership between Korean SMEs and Swiss SMEs. Especially, they will talk about ways to provide Korean students with opportunity to take the world-famous on-site vocational training in Switzerland. President Park will visit one of the vocational schools in Switzerland on Tuesday to take a firsthand look at its vocational training system.

President Park is the first Korean president to make a state visit to Switzerland since the two sides established diplomatic relations in February 1963. In Switzerland, seven members of the Federal Council who are elected for a four-year term by the Federal Assembly takes the role of president in rotation for a one-year term. After the summit, President Park will attend the World Economic Forum at the Swiss ski resort of Davos and hold investment meetings customized for CEOs of global businesses.

The president who arrived in Bern, the capital of Switzerland last Saturday, visited the special exhibition of Paul Klee, a German-Swiss painter who started abstract painting, and then watched “Korean Fantasy,” a performance by the National Dance Company of Korea. She said, “I hope the cultural exchange between the two countries to be promoted continuously,” citing the remark of Klee: “The painter should not paint what he sees, but what will be seen.”
