Japan has reiterated its territorial claim to Korea’s easternmost islets of Dokdo. The Japanese Cabinet on Friday approved the Diplomatic Blue Book 2013, which renewed its claim that Dokdo is Japanese territory “historically and under international law.”

The Diplomatic Blue Book also referred to then Korean President Lee Myung-bak`s visit to the islets in August last year and Tokyo’s protest to Seoul about the visit.“Though the Japanese government proposed that (the visit) be taken to the International Court of Justice, the Korean government rejected it,” according to the blue book. Against this backdrop, the Korean government lodged a formal protest against the claim via a statement by a spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
