The government presented “Robot Taekwon V,” the main character of a robot animation with the same title, with a “robot registration card” on its 30th birthday on Monday.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy gave it the first Korean robot registration card at its 30th birthday party held at Hangaram Design Museum of Seoul Arts Center, Seocho-dong, Seoul.

The cartoon movie “Robot Taekwon V” by director Kim Chung-gi was released on July 24, 1976, exactly 30 years ago from Monday.

The registration card is an identification card for the robot, similar to a person’s resident card.

On the card is information such as the robot’s name, registration number (760724-R060724), address (Taekwon V Base, The Republic of Korea), classification (for military use), and other functions.

According to the card, the robot is 56 meters tall, weighs 1,400 tons, and generates 8.95 million kilowatts of power. It walks at 20 to 30 kilometers per hour and can run at 300 kilometers per hour. Its special skill is Taekwondo, a Korean martial art.

The ministry’s Head of Industrial Policy Bureau Lee Jae-hoon said, “Even though Robot Taekwon V is an imaginary character from a movie, the children who watched the movie 30 years ago are now the leaders of Korea’s robot industry, and today they are making real robots.” He added, “The ministry decided to present this card to the robot in recognition of its contribution to advancing the robot industry and popularizing robots.”
