“Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)” has left a good impression with a soundtrack. The first note of Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell on You” was the right choice as it was reinterpreted by Anne Lennox of Eurythmics. The dangerously sensual atmosphere was followed by The Weekend’s “Earned It.” “Love Me Like You Do (Ellie Goulding)” in the helicopter scene was comparable to “Take My Breath Away (of Top Gun) in the 2010s.

The soundtrack maintained the audio background, which is dark, chilly and sticky like the jungle of muscles and sweats behind the achromatic suit. It received good feedback given its inclusion of the songs of The Rolling Stones, Beyonce and Frank Sinatra.

Taylor Swift, John Legend, Sia, Corinne Bailey Rae, Tove Lo, Nick Jonas, and Nicki Minaj… only the singers in the soundtrack of the sequel “Fifty Shades Darker” (released on Feb. 10 by Universal Music Korea) are famous. It is regrettable that the story is not better than the previous one.

The first note of “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” just shows a commercial taste. Both the melody and arrangement are monotonous given the expectation that it is a new duet song by Jane and Swift. Other songs are calm, but it stops at the outskirt of the stop line. Though the title says “Darker,” it is just like a mediocre well without a danger lurking behind it. Only Halsey’s “Not Afraid Anymore” and the Dream’s “Code Blue” shine alone in calmness.
