Stage sets composed of wooden stairs, platforms and ladder are simple but continuously transformed into Thornfield hall, Lowood charity school, and forest trail. Actors and actresses holding a square frame and lamp are immediately express wide open windows and dusky hall. It seems that every moment of Jane Eyre —being abused by her maternal aunt, attending charity school, and falling in love with Mr. Rochester at Thornfield hall— is taking place in the vast space.

Jane Eyre by Royal National Theater of the UK broadcasted by video on Sunday at Haeoreum Grand Theater of National Theater of Korea in Jangchung-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, depicted a dazzling English epic with a harmony of subtle acting and imaginative directing. NT Live (National Theatre Live) is a program of recorded broadcasting by Royal NT of the UK to present noticeable plays and viewers and audiences can enjoy performances by video in theatres or movie theatres around the world.

Madeleine Worrall, who appeared in movies such as "Mr. Holmes" and "Paddington," played Jane Eyre showed the essence of acting. She has many appearances—from crying newborn baby, girl of great self-respect, tutor who teaches a child with patience and warm heart and to woman who is not intimidated by different social standing and proudly show her love with assertive attitude. Likewise, her acting is mesmerizing. Actors and actress play multiple roles and their colorful and various performances add the pleasure to audiences. Also, a clear rising voice of actress that often appears during the show reflects the feelings and circumstances of Jane and deeply touches the hearts of viewers.

Piano, drum, and bass are placed on the stage and the jazz ensemble played by these instruments creates an excellent harmony along with the play continues and makes audiences deeply concentrate on the show. It was a magic. NT Live Jane Eyre made me feel to open the book Jane Eyre that I read a long time ago once again. Date: Feb. 24 and 25, Admission fee: 15,000 won, Inquiries: National Theater of Korea (02-2280-4114).
