Located in Paju City, Gyeonggi Province, Jangdan Village is a civilian-restricted area. Still, the area is famous for growing beans, thanks to abundant coarse sand, frequent drainage, and fluctuations in daily range. Grown here are Paju’s famous specialty “Jangdan soybeans,” which is so tasteful and nutritious that they were offered to the royal kings along with ginseng. While yield multiplied than the past, the soybeans are enjoying a great popularity, as they are “sold like hotcakes and already out of stock.”

Starting on Friday, a four-day Jangdan soybean festival will take place at Imjingak Square in Paju. Marking its 20th anniversary, the festival will showcase various exhibitions, vendors, and experiencing and free-tasting events this year. The festival finale is the rice cake stick event on Saturday. The festival will share five-colored 600-meter-long cake stick mixed with Jangdan soybeans with visitors and the socially neglected neighbors.
