The number of people walking the whole "Seoul Dulle-gil Trail," a trekking course that surrounds the outskirts of Seoul city, has surpassed 10,000 people.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on Tuesday, the number of people finishing the Seoul Dulle-gil Trail, which was completed in 2014 after five years of construction work, topped 10,000 as of Saturday.

The trail is classified into eight courses, including the Mt. Surak and Bulam course (18.6 km) that ranges from Dobongsan Station to Wharangdae Station; Mt. Yongma course (12.6 km) that links to Gwangnaru Station, the Godeok - Mt. Ilja course (26.1 km) that links to Suseo Station, and the Mt. Daemo-Woomyeon course (17.9 km) that links to Sadang Station.

To finish the whole 157-km course, it takes about 10 days when walking eight hours a day. "Seoul Dulle-gil Trail is not steep and is mostly soil covered," a Seoul city official said. "Each course will offer people with time to feel nature and learn history."

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the number of people finishing the course posted 340 people in 2014, but sharply rose to 5,882 in 2015, becoming a popular trekking site for Koreans. This year's finisher reached 3,778 as of Saturday.

"We will further develop the Seoul Dulle-gil Trail so that people can feel the ecology, history and culture," Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon said. "By walking this trail, the city hopes more people enjoy rural feel of nature." The mayor on Tuesday awarded a commemorative certificate to the 10,000th walker.
