A mockup of the Little Mermaid Statue (see photo), a Danish national treasure, will be installed on the waterfront of the Han River in October. The Seoul metropolitan government said on Thursday that the mockup will be set up in the Hangang (Han River in Korean) Park in October when Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen visits Korea. This is a follow-up action of what was agreed in 2014 when Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon visited the Danish capital of Copenhagen. The two cities agreed to exchange the mockup of their symbol.

The Little Mermaid is a fairytale by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. The mockup statue of the Little Mermaid will be a bronze statue that is 1.5-meter wide, 1.3-meter long and 1.5-meter high. The Eriksen family, which has the copyright, will complete the mockup this month and will arrive in Korea at the end of August. The unveiling ceremony of the mockup will be made in October when the Danish prime minister visits Seoul.

“The Yeouido Hangang Park and the Ichon Hangang Park are shortlisted and we will select one in the near future in consultation with the Danish Embassy in Seoul,” a source from the Seoul metropolitan government said.
