Another Korean principal dancer has been named by a famed overseas ballet troupe.

According to the Korean dancing community, Han Seo-hye, soloist with Boston Ballet in the U.S., has been informed of her promotion to the principal dancer by the troupe’s artistic director, Mikko Nissinen, after finishing performance of "Swan Lake" on Sunday. The 26-year-old served for the first time as the main character in the same performance that kicked off at the Boston Opera House on April 30.

After joining Boston Ballet as a member of its corps de ballet in 2012, Seo was promoted to soloist in two years. Having started her ballet career at age seven, she entered the Korea National University of Arts as a gifted student in 2005. She received the gold prize at the Dong-A Dance Concourse, and the silver prize at the International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria, respectively, in 2008.

Koreans who are serving as principal dancers at overseas ballet troupes include Kim Ki-min with the Kirov-Mariinsky Ballet of Russia, Choi Young-gyu with the Dutch National Opera and Ballet, Seo Hee with the American Ballet Theater, and Ha Eun-ji with the Finnish National Opera and Ballet.
