“Even with the high demand, this could be monopoly of a certain movie.” vs. ”No other movies are more interesting than Civil War.”

“Captain America: Civil War” appears to become the first movie that attracted 10 million watchers this year. According to the integrated network system for movie ticket of the Korean Film Council, some 6.95 million movie goers chose the Civil War as of Saturday, which is similar with “Avengers: Age of Ultron” that recorded some 10.5 million viewers in 2015. "Civil War" attracted some 729,000 movie lovers on the day it was released (April 27), defeating the record of “The Admiral: Roaring Currents,” previous first runner with 683,000 viewers.

Some note that this explosive popularity for a certain movie is caused by monopoly for movie screen. On its first day in the market, Civil War was played on 1,863 screens whose number has grown to 1,990 on the 4th day in the market. The number of screen is even higher than that of “A Violent Prosecutor (1,812 at its highest screen number),” which suffered the controversy over its monopoly. At the moment, the movie is shown on more than 1,700 screens nationwide.

Some netizens argue, “It’s not a matter of being interesting or not. The monopoly up to this level can never be justified,” while others contend, “Domestic investment and distribution companies who are busy in avoiding the same release day with Civil War is also a problem. Even if 'Civil War' is not played in cinema, movie-goers wouldn’t watch other uninteresting movies.”
