According to the Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival on Wednesday, U.S. cartoonist Onrie Kompan will display his work "Yi Soon Shin: Fallen Avenger" on Thursday to commemorate the birthday of the admiral on April 28.

"Yi Soon Shin: Fallen Avenger" is a cartoon book about the Battle of Myeongnyang in which Yi defeated 330 ships of Japanese invaders with just 12 ships. Kompan planned to release the work at a cartoon festival Comicon in New York in October. However, he decided to unveil a part of it Thursday at the Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival website and YouTube.

Kompan has released the three-part cartoon series on Yi's accomplishments since 2009. The book has been sold 51,000 copies in the U.S. On why he's continuing to draw cartoons on Yi, he said, "Super hero contents are becoming saturated. I was looking for a story of a real hero that people all over the world could emphasize with, and that was Yi Soon Shin."

The International Cartoon & Animation Festival marks its 20th anniversary this year, and will be held at the Dongdaemoon Design Plaza from July 6 to July 10.
