“Like a Light,” which is the theme song co-produced by a science magazine issued by The Dong-A Ilbo’s “Science Dong-A,” and music producer Enterarts, was officially released at 12 p.m. Thursday in music sites such as Melon.

As a joint K-pop project between Science Dong-A and Enterarts to mark April, which is the month of science, “Like a Star” is the first that artificial intelligence (AI) has participated in writing a song in Korea. This AI is called “Jukedeck,” developed by a British start-up.

The lyrics of the song was written by Lim Chae-yeon, a junior at Bundang Yeongdeok Girls’ Highschool who won the public contest held by Science Dong-A. “I thought of the theme of memories made in the human’s brain in light of the fact that AI is making melodies based on the data it learned,” said Lim. “I metaphorically expressed the brain scientific process of observing the world in the eyes of human beings, which is then delivered to the lobus temporalis and the frontal lobe.”

Enterarts will be starting the “Percent (%) Project,” which will release K-pop music based on AI each month with “Like a Light” in the vanguard. The Percent Project was planned to demonstrate that ordinary people can become creators using AI. The name Percent was given in that a majority of the public, who used to be consumers during the process of completing a song, can make conspicuous contributions in the creating a song.

“The production of ‘Like a Light’ is an opportunity that confirmed the possibility of creating culture, which was thought to be an exclusive property of experts, can expand to the public,” said Enterarts CEO Park Chan-jae. Enterarts is autonomously developing K-pop AI, which not only composes and writes lyrics but also sing as well.
