Lee Seung-gi is singer, actor and entertainer. After being discharged from the military last October, he has not been taking it easy to say the least. Recently he starred in a romantic comedy film “The Princess and the Matchmaker” as Seo Do-yoon, a fortune teller who falls in love with a princess while searching for the perfect son-in-law of the king. It is his second film, following “Love Forecast” released in 2015. “The Princess and the Matchmaker” was filmed before entering the military. On Saturday, more than 1.2 million people watched the movie in the theaters.

“I faced mental and physical limits at the military that I had never experienced. In seemingly impossible situations, I found myself getting it done through sheer will or camaraderie,” said the 31-year-old. “Now, I’m not afraid of anything. This winter was unbelievably cold, right? Instead of putting on thick winter clothes, I put up with it. I thought, ‘It’s all in the mind’ [laughter].”

Lee aspires to take his acting career out of the romance or comedy genre to a character more rough and masculine. “I don’t care if it’s only two or three scenes. I want to join veteran actors such as Song Kang-ho and Hwang Jung-min on screen,” said Lee. “I want to try roles of gangster or con man. My face looks like a good man but depending on the lighting it does have an devious side. [laughter]”

Despite having a short filmography, Lee expressed his ambitions to become a trusted actor. “I want to become an actor the audience and the production crew can trust and think, ‘Lee Seung-gi will be able to surely play this part,’” he said. “I have a lot of energy to put into acting.”
