Korean viola player Park Kyoung-min has become the first Korean musician to join the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. She joined the orchestra for a two-year trial on Feb. 15, German classical music website Slipped Disc reported Sunday.

Park started to play the violin and the viola at age of six and 11, respectively. In 2003, she moved to live in Austria, where she studied viola in the University of Music and Arts of Vienna.

The first prize winner at the 2010 Dong-A Music Competition, Park won the second prize and public prize in the 2013 ARD International Music Competition in Germany. In 2014, she was selected as the “Rising Star” by the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation. The 28-year-old violist will become an official member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra by undergoing orchestral players’ voting after her two-year trial.
