Channel A’s program “The Fishermen and the City” attracted most viewers among its competitors in the time slot. According to Nielsen Korea on Friday, the show recorded 5.19 percent viewership on Thursday, topping its previous record of 4.82 percent on Jan. 4. The program also outperformed JTBC’s “Ssulzun,” which saw viewership ratings of 4.56 percent, KBS’s “Happy Together” with 4.06 percent and SBS’s “Kim Eo-jun’s Black House” with 3.17 percent.

On the Jan. 25 broadcast of the program, chef Choi Hyun-seok starred to go fishing with the cast, namely Lee Deok-hwa, Lee Kyung-kyu and Microdot, in the eastern coast near Uljin County, North Gyeongsang Province. Microdot was the lucky one this day, being the first to catch a giant fish measured 93 centimeters in length. Choi overcame seasickness to catch a 56-centimeter-long cod, and served a highly-praised full course meal with the fresh fish. Comedian Lee Kyung-kyu, who had been dubbed “Kyu-don Ramsay” (a compound word of his name and world-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay) for his unique fish dish presented in each episode, suddenly became a third wheel, drawing laughs from viewers.

“The Fishermen and the City,” which aired its first episode in September last year, has gained popularity by featuring celebrities known for avid fishers, visiting their favorite fishing sites in Korea and having a bonding time. The program is aired at 11 p.m. every Thursday.
