Elton John to retire from touring

British singer Elton John (picture) is retiring from the road. In a press conference held Wednesday (local time) in New York, the 71-year-old singer said, “My priorities now are my children and my husband and my family. This is the end,” according to American biweekly magazine Rolling Stones. He got married to his partner in 2014, when same-sex marriage became legal in the United Kingdom., and now have two sons by a surrogate mother.

He made his debut in 1969 and has since performed over 4,000 times in 80 countries and sold 300 million records. His single “Candle in the Wind,” which he wrote as a tribute to Princess Diana in 1997, became the second best-selling single of all time behind Bing Crosby's "White Christmas.”

"It's a way of going out with a bang,” said Elton John, announcing his plan for the last tour. He said the last tour will be the most organized and fantastic show he has ever planned. His last tour is named “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” after one of his best albums, “Good-bye Yellow Brick Road (1973).” The tour would start in September 2018 in the United States and would last through 2021.

Elton John said his children will be aged eight and 10 when his tour ends in 2021. “[My kids] need me, they need David, they need parents, and I want to be there.”
