When his colleague Mario Mandzukic scored the tying goal 20 minutes into the first half, Gianluigi Buffon, goalkeeper of Juventus, yelled out a cheer like he won the victory. However, the UEFA Champions League (UCL)’s Cup nicknamed as “big ears” was not given to him this time again.

Buffon, a living legend of Italian soccer, allowed only three goals in 12 games before he met Real Madrid on Sunday. However, that day was different. Not only he allowed Madrid the opening goal in the first half, but he also conceded three goals in the second half. It was the first time that Buffon lost four points in this season.

He made his Serie A debut in 1995 at the age of 17 and he is now known as the greatest goalkeeper of the time. It was his third Champions League Final.

Since he joined Juventus in 2001, his team won eight times in Serie A and he was the goalkeeper of the Italian team that won the 2006 Germany World Cup. He was also the goalkeeper of the counterpart team when Ahn Jung-hwan scored the winning golden goal for Korea in the second round of the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup. Buffon said, “The second half was quite disappointing, unlike the first half. I don’t understand why. However, Real Madrid stood firm.”
