Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first player to reach the 100th goal in the UEFA club competitions. In addition, his team Real Madrid came from behind to beat Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 in the first leg of their quarter-final in the 2016-17 UEFA Champions League at the Allianz Arena on Thursday. Real Madrid allowed Arturo Vidal of Bayern Munich a goal at the 25th minute, but Ronaldo volleyed to score a tie at the 47th minute and reacted quickly to Marco Asensio’s cross to score another goal at the 77th minute. In the 2013-14 season, Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich in the semi-final of the UEFA competition to win the championship. Real Madrid, the defending champion, can advance into the semi-final if it loses to Bayern Munich 0-1 or ties with it in the second leg of the quarter-final next Wednesday.

Ronaldo was three goals ahead of Lionel Messi, 31, of FC Barcelona (94 goals) with his 96th and 97th goal in the UEFA Champions League, setting a record of a century of goals including two from the UEFA Super Cup and one from the UCL qualifying tournament. It is a great feat in 11 years and eight months since Ronaldo scored his first goal in the UEFA competitions in a match against Debrecen of Hungary on Aug. 10, 2005 when he was playing for the Manchester United.

Ronaldo scored 100 goals in 143 matches in the UEFA Club Football while Messi had 97 goals in 118 matches. Among active players, Zlatan Ibrahimović of the Manchester United has 56 goals following Ronaldo and Messi. Among retired players, Raul Gonzales of Spain has the largest number of 76 goals.
