Leicester City continues to surprise soccer fans in the UEFA Champions League after winning the English Premier League title last season for the first time in its 132-year history.

After debuting the UEFA Champions League in the 2016-2017 season, Leicester City defeated Club Brugge of Belgium 2-1 in its fifth Group G match in Leicester on Wednesday. Leicester City reached the 16 of the league as a group winner with 13 points, from four wins and a draw, for the first time after the club was founded. Leicester City is the first EPL team that has no loss in five consecutive group stage games since Manchester United in the 2010-2011 season.

Leicester City is in the 14th place in the 20-team EPL league this season, but the club has been earning points in the UEFA Champions League thanks to seamless defense and swift counter attack. One of the contributing factors to Leicester City’s advance to the 16 is that the club is not playing in a group of traditional strong players from Spain and Germany. Leicester City recorded seven goals and allowed one goal in five group matches. “Our team is showing better performance in the UEFA Champions League than the EPL League, and we are looking forward to another 'fairy tale' after the Premier League champion title last season,” said Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri.
