The Highland Meadows Golf Club (par-72 course) in the U.S. state of Ohio where the 2016 Marathon Classic is being held has been called the “land of promise” for ethnic Koreans. Out of 18 LPGA tour tournaments held in this course, ethnic Koreans won 11 times since 1998. Chella Choi (Volvic) is the defending champion.

This year, Kim Hyo-joo (Lotte, see photo) is taking a step closer to the championship. Kim took the lead with 15-under par (198 strokes) after seven birdies without a bogey in the third round of the Marathon Classic on Sunday. The Korean golfer led Lydia Ko of New Zealand) and Alison Lee of the U.S. by three strokes, hoping for a second win after her first win in the season opener in the Bahamas in January.

After having difficulty in communications with an American caddie, Kim is showing an upward trend with her new Korean American caddie, Kim Kang-il.
