Demonstrating her undiminished power, Serena Williams of the U.S. has seized her 22nd singles final victory. World number one Williams defeated Angelique Kerber of Germany 2-0 (7-5, 6-3) to claim the 7th Wimbledon singles title.

The victory has made Williams to relieve to equal Steffi Graf’s 22 grand slams for the first time since 1986 when professional players' participation of in major games was allowed. Combined with the record set in the years before 1968, Margaret Court holds the most victory with 24 grand slams. As Williams who had been at the 2nd place for the 2nd consecutive major games showed off her prime tennis ability, some predict that it would be just a matter of time for her to renew the record in the court.

Deprived of the victory in the Australian Open by Kerber with 13 serve aces and strong strokes at Saturday's game, Williams made a return match in a high-quality Wimbledon final.

She won some 2 million pounds (approx. 2.5 million U.S. dollars), 6.4 percent up from the last year’s prize money of 1.88 million pounds (approx. 2.4 million dollars). Given the lost value of pound due to Britain’s exit from the EU, however, the actual value of her prize money went down by some 330,000 dollars compared to the last year. Williams also won the women’s double where she played with her sister Venus.
