Jason Day, a 29-year-old Australian golfer, has become the sole leader in the race towards PGA golf championship. With the decline of the sitting “golf emperor” Tiger Woods (USA), the competition for the crown seemed to be first led by Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) between the summer of 2014 and last spring, followed by Jordan Spieth (USA) since then. However, with the beginning of this season, the baton seems to have been taken over by Jason Day, while McIlroy and Spieth have shown sluggish performances.

Jason Day, currently at the top, has gone wire-to-wire to win The Players Championship for the first time in 16 years, finishing at 15-under. He has been in the lead throughout the four days of competition. The 2nd ranker and Day’s competitor Spieth lost in the preliminary rounds, recording 14 more strokes than Day’s score. McIlroy ended the game at 7-under par, ranking at a disappointing 12th position. Meanwhile, the silver cup winner was Kevin Chappell (USA), at 11-under.

His colleague Adam Scott (Australia) praised Day’s performance by comparing him with Woods during his peak times. Just like Woods did, Jason would never miss a chance for wining, and rule the green with his charisma. The rising golf star jumped to the top in both the prize rankings and the FedEx Cup Points after winning seven championships since last August, three of them within this season, winning a total of 1.89 million dollars. He is also known for allowing no turn-around for recent five games in which he took the lead by the 3rd round.
