Son Yeon-jae, 22, a rhythmic gymnast, has won her third individual all-around title at the Asian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships.

The Korean rhythmic gymnast ranked no.1 in individual all-around with a total of 73.750 including 18.200 points in ribbon and 18.600 in clubs at the event held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Monday.

With the highest score in individual clubs, Son needs to surpass 18.600 points in all routines to win a medal in the Rio Olympics in August. Russia, a country with many excellent rhythmic gymnasts, has not selected two athletes for the Olympics yet.

Song Hee, the Korean national team coach, said, “Breaking her records is the point. If Son does not make a mistake and wins at least 18.600 in all four apparatus, she could expect an Olympic medal.”

Son’s highest records with her program for the Olympics are 18.550 points in ribbon, 18.600 in clubs, 18.500 in hoop, and 18.700 in ball.
