Having her eye on becoming the Rookie of the year in the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), Chun In-gee (aged 22, HITE-Jinro) has suffered a cold up for her debut match of the Coates Golf Championship.

“My expectation was high as my recent performance had improved but I got worried as my condition got worse. I thought that I might have to give up the game if the condition became worse on the eve of Thursday's opening game,” she said.

Displaying the “fighting spirit” in spite of a cold, Chun finished the game with four birdies without bogey at the first round of the Coates Golf Championship on Thursday in Florida and tied the second place with Kim Se-young (aged 23, Mirae Asset), the Rookie of the last year with four under at par 68.

Jang Ha-na (aged 24, BC Card) who hit “par-4-hole-in-one” (albatross) for the first time at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic last week led the game with 7-under-par 65. “I named my pet dog ‘Albatross.’ As I was at the second place last year at the Coates Golf Championship, I’m familiar with the course,” Jang expressed her confidence. World No. 1 Lydia Ko (aged 19) tied the 8th place with a 3-under 69.

Korean American Alison Lee was paired with Suzann Pettersen (Norway) for the first time since they were at the heart of controversy of “Gimmegate” at the Solheim Cup last year. Lee who tied 38th place shooting even-par inched out Pettersen who shot an over-par and tied 60th place.
