South Korean professional baseball team SK Wyverns have boosted the self-esteem of its lefty ace Kim Kwang-hyun with a hefty salary.

The club said Wednesday it decided to offer him 850 million won (706,567 U.S. dollars) for this year's salary, the highest ever for a non-free agent player. The previous high was the 750 million won (623,441 dollars) that the Doosan Bears gave to Kim Hyun-soo (Baltimore Orioles). The Kia Tigers also agreed to pay Yang Hyeon-jong 750 million this year.

The Wyverns pitcher, who has clinched a 41.7 percent salary increase, expressed thanks to his team for the "generous offer," vowing to do his best to contribute to the club. He threw 176 and two-third innings last year with 14 wins and six losses and an earned run average of 3.72. He will become a free agent if he normally completes the 2016 season. With the deal with Kim, the Wyverns finished contracting with all of the 44 players eligible for salary negotiations.

Meanwhile, the LG Twins also completed salary contracts for this season by signing a contract with pitcher Ryu Jae-kuk, who had a 22 percent cut in his 2015 salary of 230 million won (191,189 dollars), leaving the Hanwha Eagles the only club that has yet to finish this year's contracting as of Wednesday.
