Lee Kwang-ki (23), a member of the Korean snowboard halfpipe team, ranked again the highest (sixth place) among Korean players ever in the first World Cup competition of this season.

Lee, who ranked the highest ever among Korean players at the 2011 Yabuli World Cup in China, again ranked sixth at the FIS Snowboard World Cup halfpipe competition at Mammoth Resort in the U.S. on Monday. Lee, who ranked eighth with 65.75 points at the World Championship in Kreischberg, Austria in January last year, posted 70.20 points this time, an increase of 4.45 points from a year ago. “I have gained self-confidence significantly through this competition," Lee said. "I will redouble efforts for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics."

“Out athletes had difficulties adjusting their physical condition (due to delays twice of the competition) owing too bad weather and heavy snowfall," said Kim Soo-cheol, coach for free style competition of the Korean national snowboard team. "Our team was able to secured good outcome through hard training.” The Korean national team is set to participate at the World Cup competition in Sapporo, Japan from Feb. 13, after taking part in a World Cup event in Park City, the U.S. from Feb. 4.
