South Korea’s star footballer Son Heung-min, who helped the national team to win gold at the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games and was spared mandatory military service, has been valued at over 100 million euros.

The International Center for Sports Studies (CIES) Football Observatory under the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) released a list on Monday that estimated the transfer value of Tottenham Hotspur’s South Korean star at 102.3 million euros (around 133.7 billion won). The research group takes into account players’ age, position, contract duration, and performance in eval‎uation.

The latest figure is the personal highest for Son since he appeared in the rankings published by the CIES. Since he joined Tottenham at the estimated transfer fee of 25 million euros in August 2015, Son has enjoyed a strong 2016-2017 season (21 goals) and 2017-2018 season (18 goals). Considering that the CIES had valued the skilled attacker at around 99.8 million euros before the Asian Games, Son’s military exemption pushed his transfer value even higher.

Son’s value may continue to rise if he keeps up his performance in the English Premier League (EPL) this season. Han Jun-hee, KBS sports commentator, predicted that Tottenham forward’s transfer value would constantly get higher “if Son overcomes fatigue from the recent tight schedule full of the 2018 World Cup and the Asian Games and earns a starting position at his team.”

After returning from Indonesia, Son joined the Paulo Bento-led national team. Following a match with Chile on Tuesday, he stands to go back to Tottenham in England. The South Korean star is now set to compete fiercely with his colleagues over a key player position, particularly with Brazilian footballer Lucas Moura who holds the same position as his.
